Nazakat and Indigo Blue

Nazakat- An adjective of the Hindi word Nazuk means Fragile, Sensitive, Tender, Soft.

When we refer to these as characteristics of someone we may say “uski Nazakat” means “his/her Sensitiveness”.

This beautiful word has been used in many ways in Urdu Literature particularly in Poetry as an attractive trait of a person, mainly of a  female.

It is written in Hindi as नज़ाकत

Thy infinite gifts come to me only on these very small hands of mine. Ages pass, and still thou pourest, and still, there is room to fill. (Tagore)

Indigo’s Origins…

Indigo simply means ‘the Indian’ or ‘from India.’
As early as more than 5,000 years ago the blue dye derived from the Indigofera Tinctoria plant has been used to dye textiles.

… and How Natural Indigo Is Painstakingly Made
The harvested leaves of the Indigofera plant have to be soaked in water to let the indican (an amino acid) contained therein release glucose.
The freed indican soon starts to ferment with the other plant enzymes. As a result, the water turns yellow after several days. The product of this fermentation process is called indoxyl and as it is left to dry in the air, oxidises and coagulates into the blue indigo.
